Our story
The Wild Poppy opened in spring 2024 in the charming roadside spot just outside Sebastopol that was once home to Fork Roadhouse. Chef-owner Martin Maigaard cooked in the area at the Gypsy Cafe in the early 2010s before he and his wife Danielle moved back to Kansas. They always meant to return to Sonoma County, and when this creekside property became available, the timing was finally right.
It's a true family affair. Danielle runs front of house alongside her sister Emily, Emily's partner Andrew lends a hand in the kitchen, and the Maigaards' daughter Anya works as a food runner and baker — the chocolate chip cookies are her recipe. The kitchen leans on its own house-made tofu, scratch-baked focaccia, and farm-to-table produce, with a small market up front stocked with local wine, snacks, and gifts.
On the menu
Strawberries-and-cream French toast, frittata sandwiches on house-made focaccia, and tofu rancheros — with morning mimosas if you like.
The grilled mushroom sandwich with walnut-mushroom pâté, the house tofu banh mi, and other lunch favorites built on focaccia toasted Italian-style.
The kale Caesar with lemon-almond vinaigrette, the Teller's salad, and a rotating soup of the day made fresh.
Baja fish tacos with cornmeal-fried rock cod on organic corn tortillas, plus cosmic queso — cashew queso with pepita chimichurri — and chips.
Clearly marked vegan options in every category, a vegan kids' menu, and a dedicated gluten-free fryer so nearly everything can be made GF.
Daily scones, Anya's chocolate chip cookies, and other house-baked goods alongside lattes, coffee, green juice, and local wine.
In their words
Fresh food and amazing focaccia bread, which is toasted just like in Italy.
Cute little cafe with several clearly labeled vegan options. Great food and atmosphere.
The best veggie food in Sonoma County! Loved the order-at-the-counter casual feel and the amazing outdoor seating.
