Our story

A Century Rooted in Sonoma County

The Carinalli story begins in 1921, when Domenico Carinalli, Sr. left Germasino, Italy for west Sonoma County. The family started milking cows and raising chickens, and in 1946 bought the ranch on Gravenstein Highway between Cotati and Sebastopol that the family still calls home. In 2024, the Sonoma County Farm Bureau named the Carinallis its Farm Family of the Year.

Since 1996, Domenico Carinalli, Jr. and his wife Lynda have nurtured a small Russian River Valley vineyard of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. They released their first wines from the 2003 vintage and added Rosé and Pinot Grigio in 2009. Every bottle carries the image of the family's ancestral church in Italy — a symbol of tradition, quality workmanship and love of the land.

This is a genuinely small, hand-farmed operation, producing roughly 300 cases of Pinot Noir and 150 cases of Chardonnay each year. The wines are sold through the winery's mailing list and a handful of retailers, so each vintage is made in strictly limited quantity.
